West Virginia Motor Speedway has quickly become one of the premier racing facilities in the country. From its beautiful terraced hillside seating to the high speed, high banks the 5/8-mile speed plant brings only the bravest competitors and thousands of thrill seeking fans.
As a dream of Parkersburg native Jim Weigle, the West Virginia Motor Speedway began to take its shape in the summer of 1984.
Officially open in 1985, the multi-million dollar facility featured state of the art amenities for race fans and drivers alike. The wide straights and sweeping 22-degree corners quickly earned West Virginia Motor Speedway the reputation as a palatial circuit of speed and excitement.
Under Weigle, and owners Bob Jones and Pat Minnite thereafter, fans flocked to the 5/8-mile oval for many of dirt track racing's premier series such as NDRA, STARS, UDTRA, All Star Circuit of Champions, ARCA, USAC, and the World of Outlaws. Best known for its marquee Dirt Late Model events, the speedway has hosted the Hillbilly 100 (1985), the World Race of Champions (1986-1989), the Dirt Track World Championship (1999-2000), and the RaceFest World Championships (2001-Current).
After leasing the facility for the past few years, in 2002 local businessman, Pat Minnite took over the role of promoter and owner. Since then the facility has hosted numerous National Dirt Late Model and Sprint Car events along with Motor Truck shows.
West Virginia Motor Speedway offers a broad array of entertainment and motorsports festivities, building on its reputation as West Virginia's Premier Entertainment Facility. We hope that you and your family will be able to join in on the great family fun that West Virginia Motor Speedway has to offer. |
